A good padel racket is an investment — and a little care goes a long way. Knowing how to care for your padel racket can add months or even years to its life, protect its performance, and save you money. Here are the maintenance habits every player should adopt.

1. Use a protector from day one
The edge of the racket head takes the most damage from scrapes against the court and walls. A self-adhesive protector guards against chips and cracks. Add one before your first game — find them in our accessories range.
2. Refresh your overgrip regularly
A worn grip doesn’t just feel bad — it makes you squeeze harder, which strains your arm and reduces control. Replace your overgrip every few weeks of regular play, or sooner if it gets slick with sweat.
3. Mind the temperature
EVA foam and carbon don’t like extremes. Never leave your racket in a hot car or in direct sun for long periods — heat can warp the core and weaken the frame. Equally, avoid playing with a very cold racket, which is more brittle and prone to cracking. Let it reach room temperature first.
4. Store and carry it properly
Use a padded racket bag to protect against knocks in transit and to shield the racket from temperature swings. Store it flat or hanging, away from heavy objects.
5. Clean it after play
Wipe the face and frame with a slightly damp cloth to remove dust, sweat and clay. Avoid harsh chemicals. Keeping the surface clean preserves grip on the ball and prevents grime building up in the perforations.
6. Inspect for early damage
Check the frame and face periodically for hairline cracks or soft spots. Catching damage early — and retiring a cracked racket — prevents a small issue from ruining a session or causing injury.
7. Rotate rackets if you play a lot
Frequent players benefit from rotating two rackets, spreading wear and giving the foam time to recover between sessions. It also means you always have a backup if one cracks mid-match.
Bonus: protect your whole kit
Fresh balls and good shoes also affect performance and safety. Worn balls play dead; worn-out shoes lose grip and cushioning.
When is it time to replace?
